Air-conditioning

It gets hot in the Pilbara and air-conditioners are crucial. There are some basic operating requirements you need to know about using your air-conditioner.

  • Your temperature should be set between 23-25 degrees Celsius.
  • Your filter needs to be cleaned regularly. We recommend you do this monthly.

My air conditioner seems to be creating ice. Is this normal?

"Icing up" generally happens if the unit's thermostat is set below 21°C. If this happens, it will stop the airflow. Check that your temperature setting is in the recommended range - between 23°-25°C.

To rectify this problem simply turn your air-conditioner off but leave the fan running until ice has melted. It can take a little while to unfreeze. Once this has occurred, turn your air-conditioner back on. If you continue to have this problem and your temperature is set within the recommended range please log a maintenance request application with the Pilbara Iron Helpdesk.

Application forms are available as an online form or PDF download.

My air conditioner doesn't seem to be blowing properly and there's a musty smell coming from it. What's that likely to be?

That sounds like a dirty filter. Filters should be cleaned at least every month but a weekly clean is best of all.

Why do I get mould on my walls or find the paint is starting to peel?

If you have your air-conditioner temperature set too low (ie cold) it may cause mould to grow on the wall or paint to peel. To avoid these problems, check that your temperature setting is in the recommended range - between 23°-25°C - and that all windows and doors are closed.
